Consectatio Excellentiae – End of Season Two

After the Surprising league win last season the arrival of the tycoon and the ditching of Rodwell, we’re back to cover what happened in season two in the red and white part of the north-east! we started the summer knowing a return to premier league football would be difficult but add to that the added pressure from the tycoon that he demanded a top half finish I knew some reshaping of the squad would be needed.

Meet The Enganche(s)

In one of the other tactical analysis piece I did earlier in the year, I was having trouble with the Trequartista and he was roaming about far too frequent and being much deeper than I had hoped. So I said I was going to change the role to an Enganche to offer me a better, more static options. The reason for this was simple, by using a Trequartista when he dropped deep or moved out wide this disjointed the entire attack because the striker was also going wide. Not only this but at times, it meant my inside forward was isolated and I couldn’t quite connect with him as much as I’d have liked. Which was a big deal considering he is to be the team’s main scorer. With this in mind I thought rather than do a normal analysis article I’d mix it up a bit and do something a bit different again.

What Makes A Goalscorer?

Scoring goals is easy to achieve in Football Manager, getting regular scorers can be more problematic though. I’ve seen threads and blog posts about not being able to get players to score high amounts of goals before and a lot of them focus on the striker roles. They seem to think if a striker doesn’t score then their role, duty or settings are the issues, when in reality that’s probably the last cause. It’s more than likely due to the type or amount of support they are receiving.  So hopefully this article will focus on how to give the strikers the best possible chance of scoring that you can.
